Believe it or not women do not wear lingerie just for men. I know that may come as a shock to some men but the fact of the matter is that first and foremost they wear it for themselves. It is all about self esteem and if a woman feels sexy is some little silky lingerie item then she is sexy. Lingerie has been worn for hundreds of years to please the opposite sex but regardless of that fact it is still not the primary reason for a woman to wear lingerie.

To try to reach the broadest possible market lingerie companies have altered their ad campaigns recently to not only emphasize being attractive for a partner but also points out the importance of feeling sexy for the woman herself. Intimate apparel was always designed to be revealing and a little erotic but women these days get as much enjoyment just wearing it for themselves. Those women who are maybe a little shy may not be comfortable changing into a sexy piece of lingerie just for someone to look at. For these women just wearing sexy intimate apparel under her other clothes can give her a boost of self esteem. This is why many lingerie makers are now beginning to make items that are to be worn on a daily basis in addition to being sexy.

In earlier times women wore things like boned corsets that were so tight they could hardly breathe just to exaggerate the illusion of a smaller waist. The job of a woman in those days was only to please her man and care for her family. High quality lingerie was also more for the well to do so it usually implied that one was in a higher class. Now that women have a more equal footing in the world this has all changed and intimate apparel is no longer made just for a woman to wear to please her man and designers are making styles and designs that are meant to be worn on a daily basis.

With women now practically demanding that lingerie be both practical and sexy at the same time designers are being forced to meet that demand by making intimate apparel that is available for all women. They know now that women are not allowing anyone to put them in a box and they are happy with their own bodies. The plus size lingerie market has become very popular as well and is one of the fastest growing segments of the market today. With the styles available today even women who are full figured can enjoy the sexiness of lingerie.

Lingerie is not just sexual, it can also be very sensual and a great thing for one's self image. No longer is a woman's sense of self dependent upon what a man thinks of her but more on what she thinks of herself.
