Henry was a young solider in the ARMY. He was also married. The couple had no kids yet but they did have a small dog. Henry had spent the last 3 months away from home on a mission. He had just gotten home the other day.
He decided to take his wife out to dinner and shopping. They drove a small economy car in order to remain within their budget. It was nothing fancy but they got around. Henry and his wife along with their dog went to a local restaurant.
It was a nice cool day so; they left their pet in the car while they ate. They enjoyed a lovely meal and were finally ready to go. They drove on to the shopping mall. It was a very busy day at the mall and parking was limited. Henry drove around a couple of times looking for a parking space.
They drove on for a few minutes, when Henry spotted the perfect parking space. He started backing up to allow the driver enough room to get out of the space. As he was backing up another driver in an SUV was also backing out.
The two vehicles collided. The driver of the SUV looked to be a man in his forties. He got out to survey the damage. Henry looked in his rearview mirror. The driver of the SUV seemed visibly angry. Henry got out of his car to apologize to the man.
He said, I am sorry it was all my fault. I will do whatever it takes to fix the damage. The guy said you bet you will. While they were talking, Henrys dog was barking like crazy. His wife was trying to calm the dog, but it kept barking. The barking dog seemingly agitated the guy in the SUV.
He told Henry to shut that mutt up before he did it. Henry said its just a dog. Hes just upset from the accident, he will calm down in a minute. The dog kept barking. The guy in the SUV was really angry now. He pushed Henry out of the way and tried to open the car door.
He was clearly going to harm his wife or the dog. Henry grabbed the guy from behind and they struggled. The guy was about to punch Henry when the police arrived. They asked what was going on and Henry started to explain.
The other guy gave his side. He said this guy hit my car and his dangerous dog started barking at me. The officer looked inside Henrys car. The dog immediately stopped barking and started licking the officers hand.
The officer said this dog is harmless. You can not attack people because their dog is barking. Henry was cited for failure to yield. The driver of the SUV was ticket for disturbing the peace and attempted assault and ordered to appear in court.
Some people will never learn to handle conflicts in a civil manner. If things get out of hand you must be prepared to defend yourself.
