Music t-shirts are a popular trend that has its roots buried deep in the hippy culture of the late 1960s. You can find them all over the mall, in department stores, online, and at flea markets. Some of the oldest bands and musicians around are still showing up on t-shirts, like Elvis Presley and the Grateful Dead. Many of the t-shirts are also no longer simple silk screening. Some of them include sequins, beads, and buttons to adorn them and give them a fresh look.
Local high school bands are starting to use music t-shirts as well to promote themselves. Usually produced in the school colours, these t-shirts help the students feel pride in their participation in band or orchestra, and also provides an alternative to the sometimes hot and unwieldy uniforms a marching band wears. The band gets a uniform look with their music t-shirts, and with a nice pair of shorts, they suddenly have a summer marching uniform.
Of course, these are not the only types of music t-shirts that can be found. Many instrument manufacturers are now using t-shirts to advertise their products. It would not be unlikely to see the drummer from a popular band wearing a t-shirt that promotes Pearl drums or a certain type of drumstick. Even music stores have their own t-shirts and many employees may wear them both on and off duty.
Whereas music t-shirts, especially from concerts, used to come in just black, you can find them in just about any colour of the rainbow now. For example, the country band Brooks & Dunn used a tan t-shirt one year to sell during their concert tour. Concert goers may even find music t-shirts in sweatshirts and the popular hoodies, another choice for local high school bands. No matter what type is produced, the base colour is no longer just white and black.
Most music t-shirts are made using a process called silk-screening. Others are made using a heavy laminate type material and ironed onto the fabric. Enterprising people who enjoy doing graphic work can even make their own iron-on transfers and t-shirts by printing the logo off on special iron ons with their computer. They are neither difficult nor expensive to make as many stores now sell popular brands of t-shirts in bulk packs.
Whether the music t-shirt you are wearing is for your favourite popular or local band, you are proudly advertising your support for them. To ensure the printing on them lasts a long time, follow the washing instructions and never feel guilty about hanging your favourite t-shirts up in the closet. You always want to look your best when promoting the rest.
