Most anglers use fifteen to twenty pound test line and a standard bottom fishing rig with a swivel, leader, hook and sinker attached. Some of the largest speckled trout are found in the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, Sabine and the Calcasieu Lake. It is possible to catch large speckled trout near the end of March or through late fall but the best time to trophy fish is from the middle of May to the middle of June.
